Bali Hai
Michener wrote of his time in the South Pacific: “On a rude signboard attached to a tree, someone had affixed a cardboard giving the settlement’s name, and it was so completely different from ordinary names, so musical to my ear that I borrowed a pencil and in a soggy notebook jotted the name against the day when I might want to use it for some purpose I could not then envisage: Bali-ha’i.”
Now, ironically, that out-of-place name has stuck for this landscape as well.

These sketches are done outdoors, amidst the wind, rain, sun, & ever-changing, dramatic lighting here on beautiful Kauai. Spending time outdoors, practicing awareness, simply observing & studying my surroundings here is the reward for me. Large brush pens are intentionally used so that I cannot become too attached to painstakingly capturing details. I want to move freely & loose:)
Mailed flat in plastic sleeves with card stock front & back for protection. Unframed & unmatted.
Exact meaurements provided may be rounded. Please double check before doing your own matting & framing. Natural elements during outdoor drawing, may contribute small imperfections to paper & pen.
Prints may eventually be made of any originals at the artists discretion.
